  • Overview

    The Production Artist will work with the Executive Director, Production of the creative services team to produce technical art and mechanical specs based on pre-defined visual language guides for a variety of print applications.


    • Building print-ready mechanicals for publication print advertising (magazines, newspaper), print collateral, books, out-of-home / large format units, packaging, and specialty print items.
    • Conduct pre-flight and technical integrity checks on all files originating from Creative department, including final review of file specifications prior to release and ensuring adherence to standards of department and vendors.
    • Work closely with art directors and production team to develop and troubleshoot layout to mechanical execution process.
    • Work directly with project managers, production managers, and art directors to forecast daily and short-term studio workload, and ensure that creative studio deadlines are maintained and layout/mechanical workload is managed efficiently.
    • Assist the Creative team in the building of digital layouts when needed, including: digital ad banners, site artwork, digital invitations, digital lookbooks, and targeted emails.
    • Assist with retouching for presentation and internal needs.
    • Creation and updating of all seasonal advertising guideline kits.
    • Hands-on packaging comping / prototype assembly and presentation material assembly.
    • Maintain studio output devices (Epson proofing systems, color laser printers), maintain display equipment calibrations, and assist in general creative studio upkeep and maintenance.
    • Monitoring and maintenance of digital assets, font libraries, and image collections on department servers and archives.
    • Provide general studio support to Creative team, including: presentation prep, mockup building, studio supply stocking, and printer maintenance.


    • Ability to work with precision under rigorous deadlines, and extended daily schedules when necessary.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with art directors, marketing managers, production managers, and vendors.
    • Strong typography skills, and experience with high-caliber design content.
    • Excellent proficiency in all Adobe Creative Suite programs.
    • Experience with Epson output devices, color proofing, and fine print / exhibition quality digital printing.
    • Excellent visual acuity, and ability to interpret/communicate design and color comments.
    • Experience with precision hand-work; including trimming, mounting, comping, hand assembly, and binding.
    • Thorough understanding of print-mechanical specifications, ad material specs, and workflow.
    • Understanding of color profiles and CMYK & RGB color workflows.
    • Fastidious attention to detail, quality, critical specifications, and production requirements.
